Preparatory Courses at a Studienkolleg
Applicants, who have a secondary school-leaving certificate from their home country that is not recognized for admission to a German institution of higher education, have the possibility to prepare for their studies at a “Studienkolleg,” housed at a German institution of higher education. In the Preparatory Course, within two semesters, you will prepare for ongoing studies in your subject area and for a special admissions test, known as the Assessment Exam.
Prerequisites for studies at a Studienkolleg are good German language skills, at least at level B1+ to B2. Furthermore, you must have health insurance and be able to prove that you can support yourself for the duration of your studies.
Completion of the Studienkolleg
After two semesters at the Studienkolleg, students take the Assessment Exam to prove sufficient knowledge in the subjects relevant to their course of study. Following a successful examination, students can then apply to an institution of higher education in the appropriate subject.
